It just seemed to make perfect sense... You know when you have been searching for something and it eludes you for years and then you stumble across something that is so clear and logical it astounds you. And you start researching and delving deeper, scratching below the surface…and it still make sense so you breathe a sigh of relief and say to yourself ...finally... For me this was my introduction to Permaculture. I knew what I cared about and I understood how I felt about issues concerning our world. It was the feeling of helplessness and guilt which needed to be addressed. Permaculture presented itself initially when I was at Horticultural College and to be honest I found it interesting but not necessarily an answer or way forward... this came instead when I moved to Bristol for a year and began a course at Shift. It was a year long introduction to everything I was interested in and concerned about and at the end of the year I wanted to remain ‘shifted’... So there’s a saying by Max Planck... ‘When you change the way you look at things...the things you look at will change…’ Its simple and it is ultimately about self awareness and raising your consciousness. So everything I look at now I do so through a wider lens. Seaways is a beautiful house in a perfect setting and I yearned to shift its purpose from the use for a few... to many and to include people who may not visit a place like this...I aim to deliver this by running not for profit retreats with caring, like-minded people whom I am so very fortunate to know. What is Permaculture? I have taken an explanation from an inspiring Permaculture Teacher called Looby Macnamara who runs a Designed Visions centre in Herefordshire; Applewood. ‘There are seven ways to think about life… Abundance thinking-living in gratitude and balance Solutions thinking-believing there are solutions to any problem Systems thinking-sensing the interconnectedness of all life Thinking like nature-discovering nature around us reflected within us Thinking for the future-considering larger timeframes Co-operative thinking-learning to collaborate with each other And from thinking to doing- moving into action and turning our dreams into reality. The overall goal is to create harmony with ourselves, between people and with our planet.’ I hope that we can meet to share our stories with each other... Love Lucy xx
